Falcons to host TCU and UTEP in rifle

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. – The Air Force rifle team is scheduled to host two Patriot Rifle Conference opponents on Jan. 31 at the Falcon Rifle Range. No. 1 TCU and UTEP will go head-to-head with the Falcons.
In spite of the losses to Alaska in Fairbanks over the weekend, the Falcons posted season highs and personal bests. The Falcons' air rifle squad set a season record of 2367 in the match against Alaska on Jan. 24. In that match, junior Peter Fiori had four perfect series and a 196 to finish with a season best 596. He finished the day with a 584 in smallbore and an aggregate score of 1180.
Freshman Morgan Kreb matched her season highs in the air rifle with a 595, with three perfect series in the match for the score, she finished with an 1174 and a 579 in smallbore. Junior Devin Schwindt also shot a season-best air rifle score with a 584. He finished the day with a 578 smallbore and a total score of 1162.
All three shooters finished in the top-10 individual rankings, which also included #7 freshman Peninah D'Souza, who had an aggregate score of 1163. She shot a smallbore, 574, and an air rifle score of 589, which was just two-points shy of her personal best.
On Jan. 23, junior Ryan Habeck had a season best in the smallbore with a 582, he finished the day in the air rifle with a 583, and tied his PB 1165 aggregate. Kreb shot a PB in smallbore with a 584, and with two perfect series in the air rifle finished the day with a 595 and a PB 1179. Kreb was the top finisher in the match. Fiori ranked fourth in the match with an 1175, followed by #7 Habeck and #8 D'Souza.
Team Scores: Individually, the Falcons had a good weekend of shooting, but were unable to stop UAF from busting into the 4700s. Air Force lost 4687-4700, and 4683-4720 on Jan. 23-24, respectively.
Season Record: Air Force is now 4-4 for the season, and 0-2 for conference matches.
Upcoming Schedule: The Falcons will host TCU and UTEP on Jan. 31. The rifle team will be in Columbus, Ohio, on Feb. 6-7 for the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships. On Feb. 8, Air Force will compete in two matches with Akron and Ohio State in Columbus. Air Force and TCU will go head-to-head on Feb. 18 in Fort Worth, Texas, and again on Feb 20 for the NCAA Qualifier. The NCAA Rifle Championships are scheduled for March 12-13 in Columbus, Ohio.
