The meet will be scored as a dual meet, but has a unique format
USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy men's swimming and diving team is set to host the annual Colorado Sprint Championships against Denver Saturday, Jan. 30, inside the Cadet Natatorium. Start time against the Pioneers is set for 10 a.m. MT.
Fan attendance is still not permitted at USAFA, however there will be a livestream on the AF Falcons Youtube page.
The meet will be scored as a dual meet, but has a unique format. The unique format of this sprint elimination meet consists of three 50's of each stroke being swam to eventually whittle the field down to the four fastest swimmers. Before, in between, and after each round, the 200 medley relay, 200 free, 500 free, 200 IM, and 200 free relay are also swam. The divers will compete during the meet as well.
The Falcons come into the dual with a 2-1 record overall and a 2-0 mark in the Western Athletic Conference. Denver is 0-2 in duals thus far, including a loss to WAC opponent Wyoming.
Last season, Denver won the CO Sprint Championships by a final score of 214-162. The Falcons ended up with three event wins on the day, and a runner-up finish in six more.
This weekend marks one of the final tune-ups before the WAC Championships for the swimmers, as the Falcons' final regular season events will be the First Chance Meet hosted by DU, Feb. 12-13, and the Colorado Senior Open, also in Denver, Feb. 19-20. The divers will be back on the boards for the annual AF Diving Invite, Feb. 5-6.
