Air Force Downed By Boise State

BOISE, IDAHO - Air Force men's basketball (3-6, 1-4 MW) dropped a 78-59 Mountain West contest to Boise State (9-1, 5-0 MW) Wednesday late night at ExtraMile Arena. Junior guard AJ Walker led the Falcons with 16 points and senior forward Keaton Van Soelen added 15.
Air Force played Boise state tough for most of the game, but a few big runs helped the Broncos pull away.
Boise led 39-31 at the half, utilizing a 14-4 advantage in points off turnovers. Air Force led 10-6 early, but a 15-0 run put the Broncos ahead 21-10 after the run. The Falcons had a 9-0 run of its own late in the half to get within two points before Boise State hit a pair of three's to go back up eight.
In the second half Air Force held its own early, but a 18-2 Boise State run put the game out of reach. The Broncos shot fifty percent from three-point range, knocking down 6 of 12 attempts.
Air Force shot 47 percent from the field on the night. Walker was 7 of 12 from the field, adding a season-high four assists. Van Soelen tied a season-high for points to go with a team-high six rebounds.
Sophomore forward Nikc Jackson scored eight points and pulled down five rebounds. Senior forward Ameka Akaya led the reserves with seven points. Senior guard Chris Joyce added six points and freshman guard Joseph Octave had a career-high five points.
Guard Derrick Alston led four Broncos in double figures with 16 points. Max Rice was 4-of-4 from three point range for 12 points.
Air Force returns to action with game two of the series with Boise State on Friday, Jan. 8. The game tips at 6 pm MT and will be televised/streamed on Stadium.
