Both days of competition will be team-scoring events, with 13 events on Friday and 12 on Saturday
USAFA, Colo. -- The Air Force Academy men's swimming and diving team kicks off the spring portion of the 2020-21 regular season when it returns to the Cadet Natatorium for a two-day tri-meet, Friday-Saturday, Jan. 8-9. The Falcons will play host to Colorado Mesa and the Colorado School of Mines.
Friday's action begins at 7 p.m. MT, while Saturday's will start at noon MT. The meets will be closed to the public, but will be streamed live on the AF Falcons YouTube page.
Both days of competition will be team-scoring events, with 13 events on Friday and 12 on Saturday.
Air Force's first action of the season came right before the New Year in a non-team scoring meet with Western Athletic Conference rival Wyoming, Dec. 3. Despite not keeping a team tally, AF won 13 of the 16 events contested on the night.
Three different Falcons finished first in two of their respective individual events, as juniors Isaac Gwin, Corey Shepard, and Adam Grimm all won twice. Gwin in the 100 back and 200 IM, Shepard in the 50 and 100 freestyles, and Grimm in the 500 and 1000 freestyles. On the diving board, senior Cole Armagost took first on the 1-meter and then second on the 3-meter on his way to earning WAC Diver of the Week honors.
Last season against these opponents, AF went a perfect 3-0, including two wins over Mesa. The final score against Mines was 183-106.
After this weekend, AF has just one more pair of home events on the regular season schedule, and that comes next weekend, Jan. 15-16. AF will once against host Wyoming over the two days, while also hosting BYU on that Saturday the 16th.
