AF won seven of the 12 events
USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy men's swimming and diving team wrapped up the weekend with another tri-meet against Colorado Mesa and the Colorado School of Mines, Saturday afternoon, Jan. 9, inside the Cadet Natatorium. The meet was once again invite style, with AF winning the team score with a total of 320.
The Falcons won seven of the 12 events contested on the day, including three 1-2-3 finishes. AF also finished in second in the four other events it swam in, while it did not have a swimmer in the 12th. Mesa took second place with a team score of 248, while Mines was third with 182.
All five individual wins for Air Force came from five different swimmers. Junior Isaac Gwin had the biggest highlight in the 100 free, as he took gold with a time of 43.68. That is good for the fifth fastest 100 free time in Academy history.
The other four individual event wins came courtesy of junior Adam Grimm in the 200 free, junior Corey Shepard in the 50 free, freshman Joseph Moore in the 400 IM, and freshman Erik Pfaffenbichler on the 1-meter dive.
Finally, the last two event wins were in both of the relay races, as the squad of Gwin, sophomore David Tao, junior Andrew Limpert, and junior Matthew Lattin took gold in the 400 medley relay, and then the squad of Gwin, Moore, Limpert, and Shepard took first in the 200 free relay.
AF will return to the pool next weekend, Jan. 15-16, for another two-day meet. AF will dual WAC rival Wyoming on Friday, while facing both the Cowboys and BYU on Saturday.
