Air Force Men Qualify to NCAA Championships
11/13/2021 4:41:00 PM | Cross Country
The men will make their 18th appearance at the NCAA Championships - and fourth in five years.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The 11th-ranked Air Force men's cross country earned a bid to next week's NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, the selection committee announced this afternoon (Nov. 13). It is the fourth time in five years – and 18th overall – that the men have earned a selection to the national meet.
The announcement came one day after the Falcons picked up a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Regional in Provo – a placement that marked their highest region finish in nearly two decades. Three Falcons – junior Ryan Johnson (18th), classmate Scott Maison (19th) and senior Ryan Ioanidis (22nd) earned all-region honors for their top-25 performances, while the Falcons' entire scoring lineup, which included junior Sam Gilman (34th) and sophomore Luke Combs (37th), placed within the top 40 of a 129-runner event that included athletes from seven nationally-ranked teams.
In all, 31 teams and 38 individuals were selected for both the men's and women's championship races. The NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships are slated for next Saturday (Nov. 20) at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Florida. The men's 10K will run at 11:10 a.m. (ET) and broadcast on ESPNU and the ESPN App.
