Bugg III, C. Taylor and Lewis earn honorable mention honors
Air Force placed four players on the all-conference football team, announced today by the Mountain West Conference office.
Air Force junior fullback Brad Roberts and senior offensive lineman Hawk Wimmer earned first-team honors, while junior outside linebacker Vince Sanford and senior defensive lineman Jordan Jackson were named second team. Seniors Tre Bugg III (cornerback), Corvan Taylor (safety) and Brandon Lewis (receiver) each earned honorable mention honors.
Roberts leads the Mountain West and ranks ninth nationally in rushing with 1,275 yards, which is an average of 106.2 yards per game. He has recorded seven 100-yard game this season, which is third-most in program history. Roberts' 1,275 yards is the seventh most in Air Force history. Roberts is the first Falcon to lead the conference in rushing and first running back to earn first-team honors since Chad Hall accomplished both in 2007.
Wimmer extends Air Force's streak of a first-team all-MW offensive lineman to three years, as he joins Parker Ferguson and Nolan Laufenberg from 2020 and Scott Hattok from 2019 on the league's first team. Wimmer has started every game for the Falcons and helped the line, nicknamed the Diesel, pave the way for the Falcons to lead the nation in rushing with a 341.6 average. The Falcons have led the nation in rushing a school-record nine consecutive weeks and the Diesel have earned semifinalist honors for the Joe Moore Award, given annually to the nation's top offensive line. Air Force entered the season with the fewest career starts (three) in the nation. The line has used eight different starting lineups this season.
Sanford leads the Falcons in tackles for loss with 17 for 116 yards and quarterback sacks with 9.5 for 89 yards. He is second on the team in tackles with 56 and leads the Falcons with nine quarterback hurries. Sanford ranks third in the MW and seventh nationally in tackles for loss with a 1.4 per-game average and is fourth in the league and 17th nationally in sacks with a .79 norm. He has forced four fumbles this season which is fourth in the MW and 12th nationally. Sanford's 89 sack yards are the second-most in Air Force history and the most since Chad Hennings set the school record of 182 yards in 1987. His 9.5 sacks is eighth best at Air Force while his 116 yards in tackles for loss are sixth best.
Jackson makes his second appearance on the all-conference team, as he was also a second-team honoree in 2019. He has 37 total tackles and is second on the team in tackles for loss with 10 for 86 yards and sacks with seven for 78 yards. Jackson has recorded 136 total yards in quarterback sacks in his career which are third all-time at the Academy. His 176 total yards in tackles for loss are eighth in program history.
Bugg III leads the Falcons in tackles with 61 and in pass breakups with 11. He has two interceptions and one forced fumble. Taylor is third in tackles with 52 and leads the team with three interceptions. He has recovered two fumbles to record five total turnovers this season. Lewis is the team's leading receiver with 15 catches for 428 yards and is averaging 28.5 yards per reception which ranks second in a single season in Air Force history.
Air Force finished the regular season with a 9-3 overall record and were co-champions in the Mountain Division with a 6-2 mark.
