Falcons win President’s Trophy; Beat Army

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force rifle team completed a weekend sweep by winning the annual President's Trophy and then defeating Army in a dual meet this weekend at the Cadet Rifle Range.
Air Force opened the weekend by winning the annual President's Trophy, Saturday, Nov. 6, for the eighth straight year. The Falcons posted a school record team aggregate score of 5883. Navy came in second (5850), Army third (5837) and Coast Guard fourth (2263). The Falcons won the smallbore with a 2905 and the air rifle with a 2978.
Freshman Scott Rockett was the top Falcon in aggregate score with an 1183. Peninah D'Souza and Lauren Hurley tied for second at 1177. Rockett was the top Falcon in smallbore (587) followed by Hurley (582), D'Souza (580), Jordan Williams (579), Peter Fiori and Ryan Habeck (574). In air rifle, D'Souza and Williams (597) led the way, followed by Rockett (596), Hurley (595) and Fiori (593).
The weekend concluded with a 4701-4675 win over Army in a dual meet on Sunday, Nov. 7. Rockett led the Falcons by winning aggregate competition with an 1186. D'Souza was third (1179), Jordan Williams was fourth (1175) and Devin Schwindt (1170) was fifth.
Rockett was the top Falcon in the smallbore against Army and was second overall (587), followed by Schwindt (587), D'Souza (583), Williams (582), Habeck (579) and Aletto (578). Rockett set a new school record in air rifle with a 599, beating the previous mark of 598 set in 2016 and tied last season. D'Souza was second (596), Williams was fifth (593) and Habeck was sixth (590).
"Our freshmen really came through for us on Saturday," head coach Launi Meili said. "We really shot consistent as a team over the two days. We built some endurance and almost everyone had a personal best. We are heading in the right direction as a team."
Air Force, ranked seventh in the nation, travels to No. 3 West Virginia for a dual meet on Sunday, Nov. 14, in Morgantown, W.V.
