Senior is first Air Force DB selected since 1998
Air Force senior Tre Bugg III has been selected to play in the Hula Bowl College All-Star Classic Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, at Noon EST at UCF Bounce House Stadium in Orlando, Fla. Bugg III's selection is the third straight for an Air Force player, as defensive lineman Mosese Fifita was selected in 2019 and offensive lineman Parker Ferguson earned the honor in 2020. Bugg III is the first Falcon defensive back selected since Tim Curry in 1998.
Bugg III leads the Falcons in tackles this season with 61, including 47 unassisted. He was an honorable mention all-Mountain West selection. He has recorded 130 career tackles and a team-best five career interceptions, returning them 107 yards with one touchdown.
Air Force finished the regular season 9-3 overall and were co-champions in the MW Mountain Division with a 6-2 mark. The Falcons take on Louisville in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl on Tuesday, Dec., 28, at 2:15 p.m. CT, at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
The Hula Bowl was established in 1946 as the Hula Bowl All-Star Football Classic game. When the inaugural game was played on January 5, 1947, the teams were composed of mainland college players versus a local Hawaiian Islands team; primarily made up of graduates of Leilehua High School in Wahiawa, Hawaii. The teams played a two-game series every January until 1951. It was then, that the format was changed to allow NFL Players to join the Hawaiian All-Stars in an effort to create a more competitive game.
