The Falcons welcome in UNC and UVU for bonus matches
USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy wrestling team is back in action for its final regular season event of the season, Saturday, Feb. 20. The Falcons will welcome in Northern Colorado and Utah Valley for the USAFA Round Robin. Action inside the East Gym gets underway at 11 a.m. MT.
The event will be a non-team scoring, non-champion event, and will serve as a final tune-up before Big 12 Championships. Teams will wrestle specific matchups based on coach preference. There will be two mats set up, with live scoring and a live stream on both.
AF is poised to make some serious noise at the upcoming Big 12s, as seven of the 10 starters are ranked nationally. This includes sophomore Cody Phippen (27th, 125), junior Jared Van Vleet (13th, 133), senior Lenny Petersen (18th, 141), sophomore Dylan Martinez (33rd, 149), senior Cody Surratt (25th, 174), junior Jake Thompson (28th, 184), and freshman Wyatt Hendrickson (20th, HWT).
The Falcons finished the dual season with a 2-5 mark, with all seven duals against fellow Big 12 opponents, and six of the seven against nationally ranked foes. AF knocked off the UNC Bears in their lone dual, 31-7, for the first ranked dual win for the program since 2002.
The 2021 Big 12 Championships will take place Saturday-Sunday, March 6-7 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. There are limited tickets available for purchase. All four sessions will also be streamed live on Watch ESPN, while the finals will be broadcast on ESPN2 as well.
