Men's Swimming Opens 2021 WAC Championships with Pair of Relays

AF finished in second place in both of them and sit in second place overall
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Air Force Academy men's swimming team got the 2021 Western Athletic Conference Championships started with a pair of relays, Wednesday, Feb. 24, at UNLV's Buchanan Natatorium. The Falcons finished runner-up in both the 200 medley and 800 free relays.
In the first event of the championship, the 200 medley relay squad of junior Isaac Gwin, senior Brendan Richichi, junior Andrew Limpert, and junior Corey Shepard touched in about a half second behind the winners with a season-best time of 1:25.99. Their time was almost two second ahead of third place as well.
The second relay contested was the 800 free relay, and the team of Gwin, junior Adam Grimm, senior Erik Orr, and sophomore Wen Zhang touched in with a 6:26.08. It was the first time the Falcons have swam the event this season. Zhang's split in the 200 free of his relay was a blazing 1:33.61, the fastest split of any swimmer in the event.
As a team, the Falcons have 68 points to sit in second place overall. The host Rebels of UNLV lead the way with 80 points, while Cal Baptist and Grand Canyon are tied for third with 62.
Day two of the WAC Championships continue tomorrow, Feb. 25, with four more swimming events and the 1-meter dive. Prelim swimming action will begin at noon MT, with the finals at 7 p.m. MT. The divers will begin at 10:30 a.m. MT with finals at 6:30 p.m. MT.
