Men’s Tennis Falls at BYU

Air Force men's tennis (2-4) dropped a 6-1 contest at BYU Friday afternoon at the BYU Tennis Courts in Provo, Utah. Sophomore Jonathan Mascagni led the way with a singles win for the Falcons.

The Falcons went 0-2 in doubles to give up the point to the Cougars. Jamie Bautista and Paul Hendrix fell at No. 1 to Jack Barnett and Ben Gajardo 6-3 and Justin Waldman and Mascagni dropped their No. 3 match to Sean Hill and Sam Tullis 6-3. The No. 2 duo of Jordan Azuma and Robert Baylon were up 5-3 on Mateo Melendez and Dominic Jakovjevic before the match was called.

The Falcons fell behind 3-0 after Hendrix lost at No. 1 to Hill 6-1, 6-2 and Baylon fell at No. 4 to Melendez 7-5, 7-5.

Mascagni made it 3-1 with his win at No. 3 over Tullis 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-5).

The Falcons then lost the No. 5 as Azuma dropped his match to Matheus Leite 6-4, 6-2. Waldman also fell at No. 2 to Gajardo in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Sean McKendree fell at No.6 to and Vinicius Nogueira, 6-3, 7-5.

Air Force returns to action tomorrow against Idaho State in Ogden, Utah (Weber State).
