Women’s Tennis Completes 3-0 Weekend With Win at Texas A&M-Kingsville

Air Force women's tennis (8-2) defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville (3-5), 5-1, Sunday afternoon in a neutral-site match in San Antonio, Texas.

The Falcons earned the doubles point with a pair of doubles wins, then went 4-2 in singles play. The Falcons completed a 3-0 weekend with wins over St. Mary's (Texas) University and Trinity (Texas) University earlier in the weekend.

Alex Kuo and Isabella Flodin won at No. 2 doubles over Alessa Maier and Raina Zaffar 6-2. Meredith Jones and Ksenia Vasilyev then won at No. 1 over Maya Donkor and Laura Montalvo 6-4 for the doubles point.

In singles, the Falcons won the first three matches to clinch the win early.

Mebeli Becerra won at No. 4 over Zaffar 6-1, 6-2 for the first singles point. Jones then won at No. 1 over Maier 6-4, 6-2. Hailey Stelse won at No. 5 over Milou ter Morsche 6-3, 6-0 for the winning fourth point.

Isabella Flodin also won No. 6 over Jana Knaab 7-5, 6-2 and Shailla Alda fell at No. 3 to Montalvo 7-6 (6-3), 6-3. Alex Kuo's match at No. 2 was unfinished.

"What a great weekend for this team," head coach Kim Gidley said. "I was impressed with how everyone was accountable and competed each match. Not only are we making progress in working and gelling as a team, but what we are doing on the court. From match to match we saw players make adjustments and improve, and that is what you want as a coach."

Air Force completes non-conference play and returns to action with Mountain West play, beginning March 27 against Boise State in Albuquerque, NM.
