Norris is just the second Academy athlete to earn a regional USTFCCCA award.
NEW ORLEANS – The accolades continue to roll in for Air Force senior Mahala Norris, who was named the Mountain Region Female Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) this afternoon (March 18).
Norris is just the second Academy athlete to earn a USTFCCCA regional award (Hannah Everson, 2015).
The senior from Roseburg, Ore., finished fourth out of 255 runners at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Stillwater, Okla., earlier this week – clocking a 6K time of 20:11.8 to earn the second cross country All-America award of her career. Norris, who claimed the Mountain West Female Athlete of the Year award at the beginning of March, won individual titles at both the Mountain West Cross Country Championships and Silver State Collegiate Challenge.
Each of the nine regions – Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Mountain, Northeast, South, South Central, Southeast and West – honored the top men's and women's athletes, as well as the top men's and women's head coaches, in a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches.
