GREENSBORO, N.C. — Air Force Academy men's swimming junior Isaac Gwin concluded his first day at the 2021 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships Friday, March 26, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Gwin swam the 100 backstroke, and broke his own school record.
The Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Year clocked in with a new personal and Academy best time of 46.07, breaking his previous best of 46.22 set last year.
In the event Gwin finished in 18th place, which qualified him as the second alternate for the consolation final, however, there were no scratches. He was by far the highest finisher among non Power-Five swimmers, as the next-highest was a Cincinnati swimmer in 28th place.
Gwin will conclude his time at the championships tomorrow, March 27, when he swims the 100 freestyle. Prelim action will begin at 8 a.m. MT, and the 100 free will be the second event contested.
