Women’s Tennis Wins Against Utah State, 4-2

Air Force women's tennis (9-3, 1-1 MW) defeated Utah State (5-7, 0-2 MW), 4-2, Sunday morning in a neutral-site match at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium on the University of New Mexico campus in Albuquerque, NM.

The Falcons won the doubles point and went 3-2 in singles to claim the win.

Air Force opened with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Alex Kuo and Isabella Flodin won at No. 2 doubles over Gabrielle Dekkers and Zara Ryan 6-2. The Falcons took the doubles point as Meredith Jones and Ksenia Vasilyev won at No. 1 over Naya Tillitt and Renata Lomberta 6-2.

The Falcons claimed wins at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles for its first MW win of the season.

Shailla Alda got Air Force's first singles point with a win at No. 4 over Tillitt 6-2, 6-1. The Falcons made it a 3-0 lead with Hailey Stelse winning at No. 6 over Dekkers 6-2, 6-2.

Utah State made it 3-2 with wins at No. 1 and 3 singles. Jones fell at No. 1 to Annaliese Millan 7-6 (7-4), 6-0. Kuo lost at No. 3 to Renata Lombera.

The Falcons then won at No. 5 as Mebeli Becerra rallied back in three sets to down Annaliese County 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 for the match point.

"I was very proud of ALL the adjustments the entire team made from yesterday," head coach Kim Gidley said. "The energy from start to finish was phenomenal and it was a difference in the end result. A very exciting day!"

Air Force returns to action Friday, April 2, hosting Wyoming.
