Three individuals and both teams were honored by the USTFCCCA.
NEW ORLEANS – Air Force runners Ryan Ioanidis, Scott Johnson and Will Kitzhaber, as well both the men's and women's cross country teams, earned All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association this afternoon (April 1). It is the first individual selection for all three runners and the third-straight year that both the men and women have been named to the All-Academic Team.
Johnson, an operations research major, led the trio with a 3.55 GPA through the last grading period, while Kitzhaber held a 3.54 GPA in legal studies and Ioanidis maintained a 3.30 GPA in aeronautical engineering.
The men's team, which combined for a 3.20 GPA, has earned USTFCCCA All-Academic status nine times (1995, 1996, 1997, 2006, 2008, 2018, 2019, 2020), while the women, who accumulated a 3.17 GPA, have earned All-Academic status 10 times (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2013, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020).
In order to receive individual academic citations, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and have competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. To qualify as an All-Academic Team, a program must have a combined GPA of 3.00 or better, using the association's formula. Overall, there were 199 men's teams and 233 women's squads that received USTFCCCA Division I All-Academic honors.
