Air Force opens the season with a round of Friday Night Fights on Aug 27.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force boxing team, under the direction of seventh-year head coach Blake Baldi, recently announced its schedule for the upcoming 2021-22 season – a lineup that features eight contests within the friendly confines of the Academy, service academy showdowns with both Army West Point and Navy, and the 64th-annual Wing Open Tournament.
In addition to hosting five rounds of Friday Night Fights in the Cadet Gym Boxing Room – the first of which will be Aug. 27, Air Force will face its service academy counterparts three times during the fall semester – a road dual at Navy on Sept. 10, a neutral-site dual with Army West Point in Arlington, Texas, on Nov. 5, and the annual triangular showdown in Detroit on Oct. 29.
The Falcons will head to Nevada for a pair of bouts (Nov. 12, Feb. 4) and make their first trip to Albuquerque (Sept. 25) during the regular season, while also making their annual trips at the Arthur Mercante Invitational (New York, N.Y., Nov. 22) and WAC Main Event (Seattle, Wash., Jan. 28-29).
The opening round of the Wing Open Tournament will be held in the Boxing Room on Feb. 18 (quarterfinals) and Feb. 25 (semifinals), while the championship round will be contested under the lights of Clune Arena on March 4. The top contenders from the Wing Open will represent the Academy in the National Collegiate Boxing Association postseason, as the Falcons wrap up the season at the NCBA Western Regionals in Reno (March 10-12) and NCBA Championships in Charlotte, N.C. (April 7-9).
Air Force has captured 19 NCBA team titles since 1980 – and finished first or second 35 times during the last 39 championship bouts.
