Falcons downed by Bulldogs

USAFA, Colo. - Only a day and a half after a frenetic 3-2 double-overtime win, the Falcons were unable to replicate the same attacking prowess as seen on Friday, losing 2-1 to Fresno State.
A slow first-half ended with a Fresno State goal in the 42nd minute, as the Bulldogs opened the concluding half with a goal in the 49th minute as well. Air Force did not go away quietly, as the Falcons out-shot the Bulldogs 7-1 in the second-half. Faith Lee's 89th minute goal was her third score of 2021, as she's now found the back of the net three times in her last six games. However, the Falcons found it difficult to connect passes in the final third of the field, with threats on goal coming too inconsistently.
Following her game-winning strike on Friday, Jordi Ives led Air Force in shots, though none of her attempts finished on goal. Freshmen Jenna Rubidoux, Hannah Johnson, and Kendall Ahern were on the pitch for all 90 minutes.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring just before the end of the first-half, as Fresno State's Kaelyn Miller received a grounded pass into the box before spinning into position and scoring with her left foot. Three minutes into the final 45 minutes, Jaylyn Wright took it upon her own accord, as she sent a shot into the top-right corner of Cammi Bych's net to extend the Fresno State lead.
Lee's third goal of the season made things interesting late, as she streaked across the field on an impressive run. Going from left-to-right, Lee found the left side of the goal with her right foot, bouncing a well-placed shot to halve the Bulldogs lead. However, the Falcons were unable to put together another truly threatening opportunity on goal before time expired.
Air Force (4-4-1, 1-1-0) will conclude its five-game home stand this weekend, as UNLV and Nevada will travel to Colorado Springs for matches on Friday, October 1 and Sunday, October 3.
