Air Force Downs Incarnate Word 6-1

Air Force women's tennis defeated Incarnate Word 6-1 in non-conference action Sunday in San Antonio, Texas. The Falcons completed a perfect weekend and improved to 2-0 on the season.

The Falcons opened with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to earn the first point. Karina Chao and Vivian Glozman won at No. 1 doubles over Sofia Salcedo/Gargi Pawar 6-2. Isabella Flodin and Sydney Fitch won at No. 3 doubles over Alejandra Landaluce and Sophia Kermet 6-2.

In singles, Air Force went 5-1, with all five wins coming in straight sets. Glozman won at No. 1 over Sofia Franco Salcedo 6-4, 6-1. Fitch won at No. 2 over Kermet 6-1, 6-2.

At No. 3, Chao won over Pawar 6-4, 6-2. Hailey Stelse won at No. 4 over Lauren Fulgenzi 6-1, 6-2. Alexis Odom fell at No. 5 to Kinga Psut 6-3, 6-4. Alex Kuo won at No. 6 over Landaluce 6-1, 7-5.

"I was super pleased with this weekend's performance," head coach Kim Gidley said. "It was the teams first matches of the year, the matches were on the road, and the matches were outside. To have a triple threat with a dominating performance was awesome. No. 1 and No. 3 doubles got out to quick leads and No. 2 doubles was down 3-0 and got the score to 4 all when No.1 & 3 clinched. I saw the same type of fight of Alex Kuo in singles, being down 5-2 in the second set and storming back to win five straight games and the match. For our hometown San Antonio cadet - Sydney Fitch - she had her second win of the day with a long 6-1, 6-2 match. Every point was earned and she played terrific!"

Air Force returns to action Saturday, Jan. 29, hosting a doubleheader with Metro State.
