Air Force, Sam Houston State agree to home-and-home football series

Air Force Director of Athletics Nathan Pine announced a home-and-home series with Sam Houston State for 2023 and 2025. The Falcons will travel to NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, Sept. 9, 2023, while Sam Houston State returns the game Sept. 13, 2025, in Falcon Stadium. This series replaces the New Mexico State series.
"With New Mexico State's entry into Conference USA and their need to now put together a conference schedule as opposed to an independent, Air Force had the opportunity to explore other opponents for our home and home series in 2023 and 2025," Pine said. "Coach Calhoun and I have expressed our desire to find opportunities to play games in the state of Texas because of its rich recruiting, and the strong military and graduate presence throughout the state. We are looking forward to playing Sam Houston State in beautiful NRG Stadium in Houston and to their return to Falcon Stadium in 2025."
NRG Stadium, formerly Reliant Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Houston, and serves as home to the Houston Texans. It was constructed at a cost of $352 million and has a seating capacity of 72,220. It was the first NFL facility to have a retractable roof.
The Sam Houston State series adds to other recently announced series to fit a five-year approach to get home and home series with autonomous five schools and non-autonomous five along with a high exposure road game. The initial group of future games announced recently includes series with Baylor from the Big 12 in 2024 and 2027, UTSA in 2028 and 2032 and the Pac-12's Arizona in 2029 and 2031.
