Falcons Wrap up Opening Round of Friday Fights

Hannah Schuster and Katie Bush shared the team's Boxer of the Week award.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Katie Bush and Hannah Schuster shared the Boxer of the Week awards this evening (Oct. 14), as 22 members of the Air Force boxing team stepped into the ring for the first round of Friday Night Fights for the 2022-23 season.
Bush claimed the team's weekly honor with a 155-pound decision over Lexi Lee, while Schuster was tabbed for the award after defeated Shelby Paul in a 160-pound contest.
Three other members of the women's team claimed wins in the Cadet Gym Boxing Room on Friday. Abi Cook won the lightest bout of the night, as Madigan Starr defeated Charlotte McPhee-Gillum in a 117-pound bout. Abi Cook earned a 125-pound win over Emma Teo, while Malaika Ndifang decisioned Meg Courtney in the 174-pound matchup.
On the men's side, six Falcons claimed victories over their teammates. Dylan Barrios (vs Kaleb Young) and Jacob Mendoza (vs Joe Wilson) claimed wins in a pair of 180-pound contests, while Andrew Ison earned a 170-pound win over Mandaw Seck. Jordan Dutcher opened the night with a decision over Garrett Kim in the 142-pound weight class, while Nile Owens won his 150-pound bout with Dylan West and Roger Baeza defeated Ian Kim in a 158-pound bout.
The Falcons return to action on Friday, Oct. 28, when select boxers head to Detroit, Mich., to face their counterparts from Army West Point and Navy at the annual Chuck Davey Invitational.
