Sam Gilman, Max Sannes Honored by Mountain West

It is the second weekly MW honor of the year for both Academy runners.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force swept the men's Mountain West weekly cross country awards this afternoon (Oct. 18), as senior Sam Gilman was named the MW Men's Runner of the Week and Max Sannes was named the MW Freshman of the Week. It is the second career award for both runners.
Gilman finished 10th at the prestigious Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison on Oct. 14, leading the (then) 12th-ranked men to a fourth-place finish in the 33-team meet that included 18 of the nation's top 30 teams. Gaining 27 places over the final 2000 meters, Gilman recorded an 8K time of 23:24.3 to place 10th out of 245 runners – accounting for the program's highest finish ever at that meet.
At the Trojan Invitational the following day in Colby, Kan., Sannes clocked an 8K time of 24:10.40 to finish third out of 109 runners and help Air Force to the team title. With the fastest 8K in his young Air Force career, Sannes was the Falcons' No. 2 scorer in a race that saw the Falcons edge the nation's top NJCAA DI team – and host – on their home course by one point.
