Roberts posted 90 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown, becoming the program's newest all-time leader in career yards as a fullback – a record set by John Kershner from 1980-83 (2,726 yards) – while also climbing to fifth all-time in career rushing yards for all positions (2,756).
Roberts' 13th rushing score of the season and 31st of his Air Force career also reset the program record for touchdowns from a fullback, while also elevating the standout senior to sixth on the program's all-time rushing touchdowns list.
On the ground, senior quarterback Haaziq Daniels finished the day with 70 yards and a score on 14 rush attempts. Daniels threw for 96 yards on 4-for-8 passing, including a game-high 37-yard strike to junior Zac Larrier for his first career reception.
Four Air Force defenders (Jayden Goodwin, Trey Taylor, TD Blackmon, Johnathan Youngblood) recorded eight or more total tackles, with Goodwin leading the pack at nine. Falcon defenders totaled four tackles for loss, while recording 5 QB hurries and 1 interception.
Boise State opened scoring with a 13-play, 63-yard drive, capped by a one-yard rushing touchdown by Bronco freshman RB Ashton Jeanty with 6:16 left in the first quarter. An Air Force fumble lost at their own 27 on the proceeding drive resulted in a 42-yard field goal from Boise State's Jonah Dalmas, giving the Broncos a 10-0 advantage leading into the second quarter.
Two red zone stops for the Falcons to open the second quarter held Boise State (5-2, 4-0 MW) to consecutive field goals – 29- and 51-yard strikes from Dalmas -- pushing the score to 16-0.
The Air Force offense found its footing midway through the second quarter off the back of a 37-yard strike from Daniels to Larrier up the right side. The reception set the scene for a Daniels 15-yard touchdown rush, the Falcons their first score of the contest, bringing the score to 16-7. The touchdown marks Daniels' fourth rushing score of the season, and the 18th of his Air Force career.
At 19-7, junior cornerback Michael Mack II stifled a Boise State advance in the third quarter, catching an interception forced by safety Jayden Goodwin deep in the red zone, keeping the Broncos within two scores.
Opening the fourth quarter, a 24-yard Daniels pass up the middle to David Cormier, followed by a 27-yard run up the left side from Daniels put the Falcons back into scoring position to open the fourth quarter. The two big yardage plays from Daniels set up Roberts for five plays and 25 yards on the ground in Boise State territory, resulting in a touchdown and bringing the score to 19-14.
An Illegal numbering penalty levied on the Broncos on a punt late in the fourth quarter awarded Air Force possession with a chance to gain the lead. With five minutes remaining, a deep shot from Daniels for 22 yards established the Falcons' offense in scoring territory, but ultimately Air Force's efforts were snuffed on a failed fourth-down attempt by Daniels to David Cormier, sealing the 19-14 final result.
Air Force (5-3, 2-3 MWC) resumes its 2022 season on Saturday, Nov. 5, facing Army in Arlington, Texas for the Commander's Classic at Globe Life Field.
