USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's water polo (22-9, 3-3 WWPA) defeated #15 Cal Baptist (21-11, 3-3 WWPA), 16-14, in a WWPA game Saturday afternoon at the Cadet Natatorium.
The Falcons jumped ahead 6-4 in the first quarter and stayed ahead the rest of the way. A 3-2 advantage in the second quarter had Air Force up 9-6 at the half. The Falcons matched the Lancers with four goals each in the third quarter. Air Force kept answering CBU's scores in the fourth to pull out its second win over a ranked team this season.
The Falcons had 12 combined goals by junior Ian Christie, Snyder and sophomore Kaito Ham. Christie had five goals and five assists for 10 points. Snyder tallied a hat trick to go with two assists. Ham notched four goals. AJ Kuypers picked up the win in goal with five saves and two steals.
"We played really well today," head coach Ryan Brown said. "Our guys came ready to play. We converted on some key 6-of-5's and kept them from scoring on some of their 6-on-5's. It's nice to get a WWPA win and also nice to win on senior day."
The match was the final four game for four Air Force seniors, who were honored prior to the start of the game. The group of AJ Kupyers, Larsen McCarroll, Dylan Sinclair and Grant Snyder, comprise the class of 2022-23.
Air Force returns to action next Friday, Nov. 4, at Santa Clara.
