It is the first Defensive award for Russ and the second conference honor of her career.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After helping Air Force Volleyball to a perfect week of conference play, sophomore Mac Russ was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week this morning (Oct. 31), as the league office announced its weekly award winners.
During the Falcons' sweep of previously one-loss San Jose State on Oct. 27 and their five-set victory over Nevada on Oct. 29, Russ was a force at the net – accounting for 16 total blocks (three solo, 13 assisted) and a two-blocks per-set average.
The sophomore recorded a career-high 11 blocks to lead all players during Air Force's win over the Wolfpack, recording career highs in solo (three) and assisted (eight) stops. Highlighting the performance was a stretch in the deciding set, where she tallied two blocks (one solo, one assisted) during a 5-0 run by the Falcons that turned an 8-12 deficit into a 13-12 lead – and the eventual 15-13 victory. Russ, who also tied for the match high in the Falcons' victory over the Spartans, with five blocks (all assisted), added 15 kills on the weekend for a 1.88 per-set average.
The Falcons are back in action tomorrow (Nov. 1), when they host New Mexico at Cadet East Gym.
