The men's team qualified to the NCAA Championships for the fifth time in six years.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The fifth-ranked Air Force men's cross country team, as well as sophomore Halle Hamilton, earned bids to next week's NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, the selection committee announced this afternoon (Nov. 12).
The men captured their 19th selection to the national championship race following a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Regional, which was held yesterday in Albuquerque. The Falcons, who have earned team bids to four of the last five NCAA Championships, saw all five of their scoring runners finish within the top 30 of a regional meet that included three of the nation's top five teams. Headlined by a top-15 finishes from seniors Ryan Johnson (10th) and Ethan Marshall (15th), the men matched their highest regional finish in nearly two decades.
Hamilton, in the midst of a stellar sophomore season, earned a spot on the NCAA starting line after finishing 12th at the Mountain Regional – the best finish by a runner not on a qualifying team. With Hamilton's selection, Air Force has now been represented in the women's national race in seven of the last eight years – after having just one appearance in the previous 18.
In all, 31 teams and 38 individuals were selected for both the men's and women's championship races. The NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships are slated for next Saturday (Nov. 19) at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The races will be broadcast on ESPNU, starting at 10:00 a.m. (ET).
