Leo Camacho earned the team's Boxer of the Week award.
RENO, Nev. – Backed by three referee-stopped victories, the Air Force boxing team picked up four individual titles at the Reno Invitational last Friday (Nov. 11) in Nevada. Junior Leo Camacho earned the team's Boxer of the Week award after a victory in the 124-pound bout.
Camacho, in the first men's bout of the night, decisioned Philip Garcia of UC Davis in the 124-pound contest. The junior was one of four men to earn victories on Friday, including a pair of freshmen wins over Invitational host Nevada. First-year boxer Jake Edwards forced the referee to stop his bout with Wolfpack's Nolan Hugg in the second round, while classmate Neo Takazawa also claimed an RSC victory over Nevada's Austin McDonald in the second round. Fellow freshman Canaan Ray capped the Falcons' night his own referee-stopped win, as he defeated Santa Clara's Chris Bittle in the second round.
Four other members of the men's team also competed against some of their competitors from the western region. Freshman Luke Phillips dropped a 147-pound decision to Santa Clara's Dylan Gordon, while classmate Roger Baeza fell by decision to Nevada's Victor Castro at 153 pounds. The Falcons split the night against the host Wolfpack, as junior Nile Owens dropped a 148-pound decision to Joey Azar. Sophomore Robert Marzicola rounded out the men's lineup with a 165-pound RSC loss (second round) to Michael Pitts of UC Davis and, in the only women's bout of the night, junior Madigan Starr lost a split vote to Aishu Santosh of UC Davis.
The Falcons return to action this week when they host another round of Friday Nights Fights on Nov. 18.
