
Air Force to send four Falcons to U.S. Open

Air Force will be sending four swimmers to the U.S. Open Championships in Greensboro, N.C., as the Falcons aim to take advantage of the national spotlight this weekend. Wen Zhang, Andrew Armbruster, Grant Afman, and Tommy Nagle are scheduled to compete for Air Force when the competition in North Carolina begins Wednesday, November 30.
Last Time Out
-The Falcons finalized competition at the Art Adamson Invitational on November 18, as the Falcons placed sixth out of the six teams in College Station.
-Wen Zhang placed second in the 200Y Free, though his silver finish will certainly feel more like gold. The senior concluded the race with a time of 1:31.99, besting his own school and Western Athletic Conference record of 1:32.21.
-Grant Afman entered the weekend with the fourth-best time in conference in the 100Y Fly, owning a 49.92. He improved upon that time with a 12th place finish, ending the race at 47.78.
-Wen Zhang maintained his torrid pace, finishing third in the 100Y Freestyle. His time of 42.80 resets his previous Air Force record, solidifying the fastest time in the event in program history.
-Andrew Armbruster (48.31) scored season-best marks in the 100Y Butterfly as well to improve his standing in the WAC.
Yet again, Zhang picks up WAC Swimmer of the Week honors
-Zhang, a senior from Dothan, Alabama, placed second in the 200Y freestyle with a time of 1:31.99, besting his own school and Western Athletic Conference record of 1:32.21.
-The winner of the race, Alabama's Charlie Hawke, touched out Zhang at 1:31.92, as Hawk and Zhang now own the two of top three times in the 200Y freestyle in NCAA competition this season.
-Zhang finished third in the 100Y freestyle. His time of 42.80 resets his previous Air Force record, solidifying the fastest time in the event in program history.
-Zhang also participated in the 200Y freestyle relay, placing 10th with a time of 1:20.23, and placed seventh in the 500Y freestyle, clocking in at 4:24.78.
