
Air Force Falls at San Diego State, 71-55

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Air Force men's basketball (9-5, 0-1 MW) fell, 71-55, at RV/RV San Diego State (10-3, 1-0 MW) in its conference-opener Wednesday night at Viejas Arena. Sophomore guard Jeffrey Mills led the Falcons with 10 points.
San Diego State shot 48 percent from three, as the Aztecs made 11 three's. Aztec guard Matt Bradley scored 27 points, making 6 of 7 from three to lead all scorers.
Air Force was forced into 15 turnovers, allowing SDSU to hold a 26-8 advantage in points off turnovers. The Falcon defense did force the Aztecs into 14 turnovers.
The Falcons found themselves down 36-23 at the half. After trading baskets to start the game, San Diego State ripped off a 13-0 run to jump out to an early double-digit lead.
The Falcons fought back with a 9-0 run of their own to get the game down to five points at 25-20 with 7:25 to play. San Diego State then came right back to close the half on a 11-3 run.
The Aztecs went up by 19 early in the second half, before the Falcons cut the lead to 10 with a 15-6 run to make it 50-40 with 10 minutes to play. San Diego State called a timeout and promptly went on a 9-0 run to go back up by 19.
Air Force shot 43 percent from the field and 36 percent from three point range. The Falcons were perfect from the free throw line, making all five attempts.
Mills led the Falcons on offense, going 4 of 6 from the field and 2 of 3 from three-point range. Ethan Taylor scored nine points on three three's. Carter Murphy and Beau Becker added seven points each off the bench. Jake Heidreder and Rytis Petraitis led the Falcons with four rebounds each. Petraitis tied a career-high with five assists.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Dec. 31 hosting Nevada. Tip time is noon MT and the game will be televised by Altitude 2 and streamed on the Mountain West Network.
