Air Force Downs Army, 4-0, In College MatchDay At USTA Center

Air Force men's and women's tennis split its double-dual with Army Saturday as part of College MatchDay at the USTA Center in Orlando, Fla. The men's team won 4-0, while the women's team dropped a 4-3 contest.

The men's team improved to 10-4 on the season with the 4-0 win.

Air Force opened with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to pick up the point. Seniors Jordan Azuma and Robert Baylon won 6-3 at No. 1. Junior Jonathan Mascagni and sophomore Nick Vroman won 6-1 at No. 3.

In singles, Baylon won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 to get the second point. Azuma won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 for the third point. Mascagni then won 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 at No. 2 to clinch the match.

On the women's side, the Falcons were unable to hold a 3-1 lead, as the Black Knights rallied by winning the final three singles contests.

The Falcons opened with the doubles point by winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The duo of Karina Chao and Vivian Glozman won 6-2 at No. 1. The duo of Hailey Stelse and Alex Kuo won 6-4 at No. 3.

In singles, the Falcons won at No. 1 and No. 2, while dropping the No. 6 match to lead 3-1. Glozman won in straight sets 6-1, 7-6 at No. 1. Sydney Fitch also won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.

The Falcons then fell at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 singles to allow Army to rally. The final two matches at No. 3 and No. 5 went to three sets.

Air Force dropped its first match of the season, falling to 7-1 on the season.
