No. 7 Air Force hosts PRC Championships

This Week: Air Force hosts the Patriot Rifle Championships, Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 5-6, at the Academy's Cadet Gymnasium Rifle Range. The smallbore championships will be held on Saturday and the air rifle will be Sunday. The competition begins at 8 am each day. Live scoring will be available at MegaLink

About the PRC Championships: Five of the six teams in the PRC are ranked in the top 11 in the nation. Air Force, ranked seventh in the nation, will compete for the conference title against No. 1 Alaska, No. 3 TCU, No. 10 Ohio State, No. 11 Nebraska and UTEP. TCU has won back-to-back titles in 2020 and 2021 and has won five of the last six championships. Air Force won the title in 2019 and has hosted the championships in 2015 and 2018.
Busy weekend: Following the PRC Championships, Air Force will host a dual meet against Nebraska on Monday, Feb. 7, at 1 pm in the Cadet Gymnasium Rifle Range. Air Force defeated Nebraska twice earlier this season, Nov. 20-21, in Lincoln, Neb., by scores of 4703-4653 and 4701-4678.
Last Season at the PRC: The Air Force rifle team took second place in the Patriot Rifle Conference last season in Fort Worth, Texas. TCU won the overall team championship (4723), followed by Air Force (4678), Ohio State (4658) and UTEP (4552). Morgan Kreb finished third overall with a final score of 1177. She was the team's top finisher in the championships, and earned all-conference honors for both rifles. Peter Fiori was fourth overall with a score of 1171. He also earned all-conference honors in both guns. In addition to Kreb and Fiori, Devin Schwindt earned all-conference honors in small bore and Ryan Habeck was all-conference in air rifle.
Last Week: Air Force posted a season high score of 4715 to defeat UTEP (4546) in a dual meet, Jan. 29, in El Paso, Texas. Air Force (9-3 overall) posted the top nine aggregate scores in the dual. Freshman Scott Rockett was the top individual with a career high 1188. Peninah D'Souza was second overall with an 1179. Peter Fiori shot a season-high 1178 to place third. Devin Schwindt was fourth with a career-best 1175. Ryan Habeck was fifth with a career-best 1170, followed by Morgan Kreb (1167, Lauren Hurley (1166), Jordan Williams (1164) and Dante Aletto (career-best 1163). Rockett was the top shooter in both smallbore (career-best 589) and air rifle (matched career-high 599). Fiori was second in small bore (587) while D'Souza was third (584). Williams was second in air rifle (tied career high 597) while Schwindt was third (career high 596).

NCAA Championships at USAFA: The Air Force Academy will host the 2022 NCAA Rifle Championships, March 11-12. The Championship will conclude on Saturday, March 12, in Clune Arena. The co-ed tournament features the top eight NCAA rifle teams, along with the next highest scoring individuals that are not part of the competing teams. Teams and individuals are invited to compete based on qualifications that conclude in February. The NCAA Rifle Championship was established in 1980 and this season marks the third time the Academy has hosted (1996 and 2006).Kentucky won the 2021 NCAA Championship, hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, while Air Force finished eighth.
