Falcons Open Action at Western Regionals

Air Force posted a 3-2 record during the semifinal round of NCBA Regional action in Reno.
RENO, Nev. – The Air Force boxing team opened the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) postseason with a 3-2 record during the semifinal round of competition at the Western Regional this evening (March 11) in Reno. Highlighted by a pair of referee-stopped contests, the men were perfect on the night.
Senior Ayaz Mustafa and junior Alan Long advanced to the regional final with early victories, as both Mustafa (156 pounds, vs Nevada's Joseph Azor) and Long (165 pounds, vs Utah's Logan Jannick) forced the referee to halt their bouts in the second round. Sophomore Jacob Mendoza also advanced out of the semifinals after earning a 175-pound decision over Washington's Philman Tesfaya.
On the women's side, junior Susan Yeung and senior Maddie Lloyd dropped their opening-round bouts, as Yueng lost a 112-pound contest with Aishu Santosh of UC Davis and Lloyd ended on the wrong side of a split decision against California's Lea Chambadal in the 132-pound semifinal.
Air Force returns to the ring tomorrow (March 12), for the final round of the NCBA Western Regional.
