Air Force Earns First-Ever Win at UNLV

Falcons earn 14th win, the most since 2005.
Air Force men's tennis had a historic night, defeating UNLV 4-3 in Mountain West action Saturday night at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas, Nev. It was the first-ever win over UNLV (12-13, 1-4 MW) in Las Vegas for the Falcons and their 14 wins on the season is the most for the program since 2005.
The Falcons took the doubles point with a pair of wins, including a tiebreaking win to clinch the point. Jonathan Mascagni and Arjun Kersten opened with a win at No. 2 over Atherton/Sauer 6-3. After the Falcons dropped the No. 3 match, Robert Baylon and Jordan Azuma won at No. 1 over Brodney/Dabic 7-6 (7-5).
In singles, the Falcons rallied back from a 3-2 deficit by pulling out wins at No. 5 and 2 to complete the comeback.
UNLV opened with wins at No. 1 and 6 singles to jump ahead 2-1. Kersten won at No. 3 over Zac Brodney in three sets, including the tiebreaker in the third set, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) to tie it up.
The Rebels then went back up 3-2 with a win at No. 4. Justin Waldman then re-tied the match up at 3-3 with a win at No. 5 over Zach Garner 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3). Jonathan Mascagni then won at No. 2 over Jordan Sauer in three sets, including the tiebreaker in the third set, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5).
Air Force improved to 14-8, 2-3 MW. It is the winningest season in the Dan Oosterhous era, spanning 13 seasons.
The Falcons close out the regular season on Thursday, April 21, hosting Utah State.
