Air Force Sets MW Wins Record With 4-2 Win Over Utah State

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis set a program record for Mountain West wins, in a 4-2 win over first-place Utah State (9-11, 3-2 MW) on senior day Thursday afternoon at the USAFA Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Falcons capped the regular season with a 15-8 overall record and 3-3 mark in Mountain West play. The three MW wins are the most in program history and the 15 wins are the most since 2005.

Air Force won a pair at doubles and went 3-2 singles for the win.

Seniors Robert Baylon and Jordan Azuma opened doubles play with the win at No. 1 doubles over Cierney/Zarkovic 6-3. The duo of Arjun Kersten and Jonathan Mascagni won at No. 2 over Ninteman/Ruiz 6-3 to clinch the doubles point.

In singles, Utah State opened with a win at No. 6 to tie the match up. Air Force went back ahead with a win at No. 5, as Justin Waldman defeated Roko Savin 6-2, 6-4. The Aggies tied it back up at 2-2 with a win at No. 4.

The Falcons then took a 3-2 lead as Kersten defeated Sergi Mico Fenollar at No. 3 in a dramatic three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6. It was Mascagni with the clinching point for the second-straight match at No. 2, as he rallied back to defeat David Cierny 6-7, 6-21, 6-4. Just last weekend, Mascagni clinched Air Force's 4-3 win at UNLV.

"Today was a very gutsy performance and the team is fired up for the conference tournament," head coach Dan Oosterhous said.

The Falcons return to action at the Mountain West Conference Championships, held April 29-May 1. Air Force is the host school with the competition being held at the USAFA Tennis Courts.
