Air Force Wins At Wyoming Sunday, 4-2

Air Force women's tennis won at Wyoming, 4-2, in Mountain West action Sunday in Laramie, Wyo. The Falcons defeated the Cowgirls (8-9, 2-2 MW) in Laramie for just the second time ever in program history and improved to 14-4, 3-1 MW.

Air Force opened by taking the doubles points with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Vivian Glozman and Karina Chao defeated Oreshkina/Krause at No. 1, 6-3. Alex Kuo and Hailey Stelse won at No. 3 over Kaftanova/Malinak 7-6 (7-5) to clinch the point.

In singles, the Falcons went 3-2. Glozman opened with a win at No. 1 over Maria Oreshkina in straight sets 7-5, 6-1. After Air Force lost at No. 2 singles, Chao won at No. 4 over Ana Fernandez in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 for the third point.

The Falcons dropped the No. 3 match to make it a 3-2 score. Senior Alex Kuo then won at No. 6 over Mihaela Kaftanova in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. It was the second-consecutive match-clinching win for Kuo against Wyoming, as she did the same last year at the Academy.

"It was a total team effort, starting with the doubles point," head coach Kim Gidley said. "For the 16th time out of 18 matches the team won the doubles point. That is impressive. It came down to No.3 doubles and a tie-breaker. The number one doubles team of Glozman and Chao have only lost one match all season and our no. 3 team is 16-2."

"The fight was there in the singles," Gidley added. "Wyoming is a well coached team and their players always battle hard. I knew this would be a barn burner, with playing over four hours. In singles, Glozman has yet to lose a singles match all spring at No. 1. She battles so hard and even when she is not playing well, she finds a way to win and step up her game to a new level."

The Falcons return to action April 9 at Utah State.
