Brad Roberts, Isaac Cochran and Vince Sanford named to team
Air Force senior fullback Brad Roberts, senior offensive lineman Isaac Cochran and senior linebacker Vince Sanford were all named to the preseason all-Mountain West football team, announced today by the league office during the 2022 Mountain West Football Media Day at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.
Brad Roberts is the top returning rushing in the Mountain West and among the top nationally. Roberts rushed for 1,352 yards last season, an average of 104.0 per game. He ranks 14th nationally in yards per game and 12th in rushing yards among returning players.
Cochran anchors an offensive line that helped the Falcons lead the nation in rushing last year with a 327.7 per-game average. Air Force was the lone team to average 300-plus yards last season and won the national title by 47.1 yards per game. The offensive line became the first FBS team in history to earn finalist honors for the Joe Moore Award, given annually to the top offensive line in the nation.
Sanford was among the most disruptive players in the nation last season. He finished fourth on the team in tackles with 59. He ranked fourth in the MW and 17th nationally in sacks and fourth in the conference and 23rd nationally in tackles for loss.
Air Force finished the season 10-3 overall and was co-champion of the Mountain West Mountain Division with a 6-2 mark. The Falcons posted double digit wins for the second time in three seasons (2019), fourth time under head coach Troy Calhoun and ninth time in school history. Air Force capped the season with a 31-28 victory over Louisville in the First Responder Bowl in Dallas, Texas, to record its third consecutive bowl win dating back to 2016, including two straight over Power 5 teams.
