
Jon Reeves Joins Air Force Women’s Tennis As Associate Head Coach

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's tennis welcomes Jon Reeves as associate head coach, announced today by head coach Kim Gidley. Reeves comes to the Academy after serving as women's tennis head coach at Montana State the previous seven seasons.
"I am thrilled to have Jon Reeves and his family join us at the Air Force Academy," Gidley said. "Jon has a wealth of experience covering a broad range in tennis. I am looking forward to Jon's personality, work ethic and expert background to help continue to make our women's tennis program grow and bring the program to the next level."
"I would like to thank senior associate athletics director Kevin Anderson and coach Gidley for the opportunity to coach the Falcon Women's Tennis Team," Reeves said. "The Air Force Academy is a unique environment filled with exceptional people. It's an honor to become one piece of a huge team having positive influence on the cadets. I am excited for my family to join the Falcon Family!"
Prior to becoming head coach for the Bobcats, Reeves served three seasons as a volunteer assistant with the University of Oklahoma's men's tennis team and helped guide the Sooners to back-to-back NCAA Men's Tennis Championship runner-up appearances in 2014 and 2015.
A native of Missouri, Reeves recently finished his 31st season of coaching tennis. He also boasts an impressive and extensive resume` which includes stints as an assistant women's tennis coach at Virginia, Virginia Tech, William & Mary, and UCLA.
During the 2014-15 season, Reeves worked under OU Head Coach John Roddick and helped pace the Sooners to a 29-3 overall mark; a No. 1 ITA ranking, the 2015 ITA National Indoor title, as well as a Big 12 championship.
From 2006 to 2012, Reeves was the owner and president of Reeves Tennis & Fitness, Inc., in Newnan, Ga., where he oversaw player development from beginning levels to national-level training.
In the summer of 2011, Reeves was the Director of Tennis at Glenmore Country Club in Charlottesville, Va., and was the volunteer assistant for Auburn University's men's tennis team from 2010 to 2011.
From 2005 to 2006, Reeves worked as an academy coach at the Roddick-Morros International Tennis Academy in San Antonio, Texas. At the academy, Reeves was a traveling coach for athletes and worked in player development. He worked exclusively with Olga Govortsova at the beginning of her career. Govortsova has ranked as high as No. 35 in singles play and No. 24 in doubles action by the Women's Tennis Association.
From December 2004 to 2005, Reeves was the assistant women's tennis coach at the University of Virginia. There, he worked specifically in recruiting and player development. He also oversaw the women's tennis program during the hiring process for the new head coach.
Reeves was the assistant women's tennis coach at Virginia Tech from August 2004 to December 2004.
He was the assistant women's tennis coach at The College of William & Mary from 2003 to 2004. While he was there, William & Mary reached its highest Intercollegiate Tennis Association team ranking at No. 8 and won the Colonial Athletic Association conference team championships. The team also produced two All-Americans.
From 2002 to 2003, Reeves was the Director of High Performance Coaching at the Peachtree City Tennis Center in Peachtree City, Ga. There, he developed 15 United States Tennis Association nationally-ranked juniors.
Reeves got his collegiate coaching start at UCLA as the assistant women's tennis coach from 2000 to 2002. While he was there, the team reached many milestones, including an ITA No. 4 ranking in 2002 and No. 27 ranking in 2001. The team also produced nine All-Americans while he was there.
From 1999 to 2000, Reeves was the Co-Director of Tennis at Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai, Calif., where he worked in player development for nationally-ranked juniors. While there, he had three students ranked in the top 10 in the U.S.
From 1997 to 1999, Reeves was the Vice President and Director of the ACE National Team at the ACE Tennis Academy in Atlanta, Ga.
Reeves played collegiately at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C., from 1989 to 1993 under Hall of Fame Coach Kent Demars.
Reeves has many other coaching accomplishments, including coaching four WTA-ranked tennis players. He has been certified for a USTA High Performance Coaching Program since 2001 and has been a certified U.S. Professional Tennis Association member since 1997. He has coached eight USTA junior national champions. Reeves has also coached 18 boys and 19 girls to tennis scholarships at Division I universities.
He is married to the former Mary Jayne Harrelson. An outstanding collegiate track and field athlete, who went on to a 12-year professional career, she was a two-time NCAA champion at 1500-meters, a two-time runner up in the 800-meters outdoor and was a six-time All-American at Appalachian State. She also represented six USA teams in her professional career. Harrelson-Reeves has also coached collegiately at Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech. The couple have a daughter, Elsie Kaye, and son Carver Abraham.
