LOOKING AT NORTHERN IOWA
UNI football cracked the top 25 of its fourth preseason national poll. The AFCA FCS Coaches Poll has the Panthers ranked No. 21 in today's poll release. Stats and Athlon's preseason polls also rank UNI at No. 21. HERO Sports ranks UNI at No. 24 in the nation.
Head coach Mark Farley enters his 22nd season with the Panthers as the most winningest coach in program history. He also leads the conference in wins. With a winning percentage of .644, he is tied at 13th in the nation among all active FCS coaches for winning percentage.
The Panthers return four all-MVFC players with kicker Matthew Cook, linebacker Spencer Cuvelier and defensive back Benny Sapp III having earned first team distinctions last season and Deion McShane earned an honorable mention.
UNI made its 22nd appearance in the FCS playoffs last season and toppled two top-10 teams to earn National Team of the Week honors from Stats Perform.

Air Force defeated Lafayette, 35-14, in Falcon Stadium to open the 2021 season. The Falcons jumped to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter behind touchdown runs by Micah Davis and Haaziq Daniels. Following a score by Lafayette, Davis and Daniels added another touchdown run each to make it 28-7 at the half. Lafayette added a second touchdown in the third quarter before the Falcons closed out the scoring in the fourth with a third touchdown run from Daniels. The Falcons had 420 total yards, including 370 rushing. Brad Roberts led the Falcons with 111 yards rushing while Davis added 101 yards and two scores on just four carries. Daniels finished with 72 yards and a career-high three touchdowns while hitting 3-5 passes for 50 yards. Davis added two catches for a team-best 27 yards. The Falcons held Lafayette to just 287 total yards, including 42 rushing. Caleb Humphrey led the defense with five tackles each, while Alec Mock and Demonte Meeks added four each.
