U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force shooters Peninah D'Souza and Scott Rockett are scheduled to compete in the 2022 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships, Oct. 12-25, in Cairo, Egypt.
D'Souza, a junior and first-team NCAA All-American in air rifle last season, will compete in the junior women's air rifle match.
Rockett, a sophomore who won the NCAA air rifle championship last season, will compete in the junior men's prone match, the junior men's 3-position match, the junior men's air rifle match and the junior men's air rifle team match. Rockett earned All-America honors last season in air rifle, smallbore and aggregate.
The World Shooting Championships features competitors from 110 nations. There are two categories Open Class and Junior Class. Juniors can compete in the Junior Class until the date of their 21st birthday.
The World Championship events are held at 10 meters for air rifle (same as the NCAA Rifle event) and at 50 meters for 3-position smallbore. The 3-position smallbore event is held outdoors which brings in the factor of wind impacts on the bullets. The NCAA 3-position event is the same except the NCAA competition is indoors at 50 feet on a reduced target.
"We are very proud of Scott and Peninah," assistant coach David Johnson said. "They have earned the right to represent Team USA and USAFA on the world stage. This competition will be a critical experience for their development towards competing in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games."
