
Fonseca leads Falcons on final day of GMFI

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Freshman Alvaro Fonseca led the Air Force golf team on the final day of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Academy's Eisenhower Blue Course.
Fonseca made three birdies for a final round 75. Fonseca was the top Falcon over the 54-hole tournament with a 225. Senior Isaac Layne shot 76 on the final day for a three-round score of 227. Sophomore Cameron Kahle shot 229, sophomore Christopher Park came in at 237 and freshman Brooks Morrell shot 238.
Colorado State won the tournament with an 834 (-30), just three shots off the tournament record. Colorado was second at 859 (-5). San Jose State and New Mexico State were tied for third at 861 (-3) and Wofford was fifth at 868 (+4) Air Force was 22nd at 913.
CSU's Connor Jones won the individual title at 203 (-13), holding off his teammate Davis Bryant who birdied his last two holes (204, -12). Jones' score was just two off the tournament record.
In the GMFI Individual Tournament on the Eisenhower Silver Course, Utah Tech's Davis Heslington won with a 205 (-11). Colorado State's Jay Pabin was second (208) and Wyoming's Patrick Azevedo was third (207). Air Force's highest finisher on the Silver was sophomore Christopher Ehrenberger with a 222 (+6), including a one-under 71 in the final round. Air Force's other competitors on the Silver were freshman Ted Davenport (226), junior Aaron Kuznik (230), junior Max Heupel (232), sophomore Sam Schuhl (234), freshman Eric Liveringhouse (234) and freshman Colin Laughrey (237).
Air Force returns to action at the CSU Ram Masters, Sept. 19-20, in Fort Collins, Colo.
