Sixteen Falcons will travel to Lincoln, Neb., for their first road meet of the year.
Sixteen members of the Air Force cross country team will travel to Lincoln, Neb., this Saturday (Sept. 14) for the annual Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational at Mahoney Golf Course. The meet is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. (CT).
MEET INFORMATION
The Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational – named after two long-time coaches at Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska, respectively – will be contested throughout Mahoney Golf Course (7900 Adams St) in Lincoln on Saturday, Sept. 17. The women will run a 5K course at 10:00 a.m. (CT), while the men will follow with an 8K circuit 45 minutes later. Admission is $5 for spectators and results will be available via Black Squirrel Timing.
WHO'S WHO
Ten NCAA Division I teams – Air Force, Creighton, Drake, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri-Kansas City, Nebraska, Northern Colorado, Omaha, Wichita State – will compete at the Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational, as well as 26 non-DI teams.
HISTORY 101
Air Force has competed at the Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational 15 times since 1999 and captured the team title in eight of those appearances. After tying with Nebraska for the championship at their first meet, the men have won seven more titles outright (2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2016), while Ben Payne (2003), Abe Wengel (2004) and Jim Walmsley (2010, 2011) have captured individual first-place finishes. On the women's side, Air Force captured the team title in 2012 to help Air Force to the team sweep that year.
MEN MOVE UP TO NO. 11 IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
The men moved up two places to No. 11 in the Sept. 13 edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I National Coaches Poll. The men tallied 194 points to earn that ranking – a placement that matched their highest regular season ranking since 2018.
GOING STRONG
The #AFXC men have been mentioned in the national conversation (either as a ranked team or one that is receiving votes) for 40-straight weeks – a program-best streak that dates back to the opening poll of the 2017 season.

Kansas natives Ashton Higgerson and Ethan Marshall attended the same high school – Saint Thomas Aquinas.
THE NEXT COURSE
Air Force is back in action next Saturday (Sept. 24), when it travels to Stillwater, Okla., for the prestigious Cowboy Jamboree on the OSU Cross Country Course – site of this fall's national championship meet.
