Air Force Women’s Tennis Completes Day Two At ITA Bedford Cup

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's tennis wrapped up day two at the 2022 ITA Bedford Cup In The Mountains this Friday afternoon at the Air Force Outdoor Intercollegiate Tennis Courts. The second round of doubles and the first two rounds of singles were played.

Air Force had two players reach the singles semifinals in their respective draws. Freshman Abby Cotuna made the semifinals of the Bravo Draw with a pair of wins in her first two collegiate singles matches. Sophomore Kayleigh Yun-Thayer reached the Charlie Draw semifinals with two wins.

Air Force also reached the semifinals of the Alpha and Bravo Draws and the final of the Charlie Draw. Sydney Fitch and Alexis Odom won their match over Denver in the quarterfinals to advance in the Alpha draw. Courtney Swift and Yun-Thayer reached the Bravo draw with a win over Boise State. In the Charlie draw, Cotuna and Shailla Alda reached the championship match with a win in the semifinals over New Mexico State.

Head coach Kim Gidley on day one play:
"We were very excited to play the first day of competition yesterday. On day two of the Bedford Cup, the coaching staff was thrilled with the level of competition and play of the team. Today was the first time we have even completed a match of singles, so it was very impressive to have two players in the semifinals in their draws, after competing a match of doubles and two singles. Both semifinals Abby Cotuna and Kayleigh Yun-Thayer went three sets in both of their victories. It was a lot of play and the coaching staff saw a tremendous amount of fight, even in the matches that did not go our way. In the doubles portion, we are in the semi's of the Alpha and Bravo draws and then the finals of the Charlie draw. Our combination of doubles teams are really complementing each other and they are really executing what we do in practice. Each day, this team is getting better. They compete hard and are fun to watch!"

Competition resumes tomorrow with doubles and singles, beginning at 9 am.
