Lindsey Peters and Halle Hamilton paced the women, while one second separated the top 10 men.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Air Force cross country team, which includes the 13th-ranked men's squad, kicked off the 2022 season this morning (Sept. 2) at the AFXC Classic in Colorado Springs.
Sophomore Lindsey Peters clocked the fastest time of the meet for the second-straight year, as she and classmate Halle Hamilton completed the three-mile circuit around Monument Valley Park in a time of 17:16. Fellow sophomore Ally Peterson finished the course in 17:33, while senior Maddie Edwards and junior Rachel Crytser rounded out the top-five finishers in 17:45 and 17:53, respectively.
The "pack" mentality that has helped the Falcons to back-to-back NCAA appearance was on display this morning, as the top 10 runners crossed the finish line within one second of each other. Sophomore Bryce Lentz, senior Ryan Johnson, junior Sean Maison and senior Sam Gilman claimed the top-four places in the four-mile race with matching times of 20:22, while seniors Niko Fraser, Ethan Marshall, Aidan Boyle and Scott Maison, as well as juniors Luke Combs and Eli Bennett, rounded out the top 10 in 20:23.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17, when they travel to Lincoln, Neb., for the annual Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational.
