Layne leads Falcons on final day at CSU Ram Masters

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Senior Isaac Layne led the Air Force golf team on the final day of the CSU Ram Masters, Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Fort Collins Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo.
Layne shot a two-over 72 in the final round of the par-70 course. After bogeying three of his first four holes, Layne played the next 14 holes in one-under-par. He birdied the 183-yard par-3 14th hole and the 556-yard par-5 seventh.
Sophomore Cameron Kahle also bogeyed three of his first four holes and then parred the next 14 for a 73 (+3). Freshman Alvaro Fonseca posted three straight birdies on the back side as he finished at 75. Sophomore Christopher Park shot 76 and freshman Brooks Morrell shot 77.
Morrell was the top Falcon over the 54-hole tournament with a 221. Fonseca shot 227, Kahle 228, Layne 229 and Park 230. Sophomore Christopher Ehrenberger, competing as an individual, shot a three-round score of 232.
Air Force shot a 296's in the final round was the best round of the season. Air Force placed 15th as a team with a three-round score of 896. The host school, Colorado State, won the tournament with an 823 (-17). CSU Fullerton was second (834), Utah Valley was third (837) and Wyoming was fourth (845).
The Falcons will compete in the inaugural GCAA/Folds of Honor Tournament, Sept. 26-28, in Grand Haven, Mich. All three service academies will compete in the 54-hole tournament, along with a strong national field that includes Arizona, Clemson, Florida State, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan State, North Carolina State, Oregon State and UCLA among others in the 18-team field.
