Falcons cruise to top finish in quad meet

USAFA, Colo.- Air Force, hosting Wyoming, Northern Colorado, and Colorado School of Mines, defeated all three of its foes at the Cadet Natatorium. The Falcons team score of 1,567 bested the field following the weekend quad meet.
"Coming back to USAFA after an amazing training trip and excellent practices, we came into this weekend needing to get used to racing again at 7,000 feet," said head coach Colleen Murphy. "The team remained strong and resilient. They showed grit even when things got tough."
A total team effort, the Falcons claimed first-place wins in 11 events.
The 200Y Medley Relay team of Corbyn Cormack, Kai-Min Tsuei, Abby Turner, and Kimmy Woolfenden claimed the top spot in the event, racing to a finish of 1:45.56. Cormack also won the 200Y IM (2:09.33), and placed second in the 100Y Fly (57.22).
Tsuei raced to a win in the 100Y Backstroke, touching out at 58.02. The freshman finished second behind her teammate Corrine Yorkman in the 200Y Backstroke, as Yorkman's 2:05.44 in the event claimed the win.
Abby Turner's 24.19 in the 50Y Free was best in the field. Turner, as well as Tsuei, Kara Gavin, and Raquelle Roesch raced to a win the 400Y Free Relay, combining for a winning time of 3:32.57.
Gavin's day didn't end with a win in the relay, as the junior also swam to a first-place finish in the 200Y Free (1.55:59). In the 400Y IM, Ava Hutcherson bested field with a time of 4:44.26. The foursome of Lily Bachl, Cormack, Roesch, and Turner punctuated the Falcons relay success with a win in the 200Y Free Relay, narrowly topping Northern Colorado with a time of 1:37.17.
The divers also contributed to the Falcons success, as Gabrielle Peltier's 226.60 in the platform dive was enough win the event. The senior also won the three-meter dive with a score of 267.70. Peltier placed fourth in the one-meter dive (236.15), as well.
"We are in a great place and so excited for the rest of the season," Murphy said.
Next, Air Force remains home as the Falcons host BYU, Seattle, and Colorado Mesa for two days, with action starting Friday, January 20 at 5:00 pm MT.
