Falcon Wrestling Thunders Past CBU, 38-3

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Falcons hit Sunny California to put on a clinic against Big 12 foe California Baptist, outscoring the Lancers 38-3 for the highest team score for AF this season. The Falcons improve to 5-1 with a 2-1 mark in the league. CBU drops to 1-9 overall with an 0-4 mark in the league.
The Falcons sounded off on the Lancers with bonus point wins in seven divisions—led off by freshman Cadet Athlete of the Week Tucker Owens at 125. Owens was commanding in his 18-1 technical fall over Adrian Limon to put the Falcons on pace. The win marked Owens' 19th of the season.
No. 21 Cody Phippen followed up with a major decision over Hunter Leake, 10-2, for his fifth major decision this season. Junior 141-pounder Garrett Kuchan continued the roll with a 12-7 decision over Edison Alanis, for his 14th win. Senior 149-pounder Dylan Martinez got the Falcons back in bonus points with a convincing 12-4 major decision over Marcus Peterson, lifting AF to a 16-0 team lead.
At 157, Jack Ganos was perfect against Joey Mora, posting a 16-0 technical fall for his second of the season, 12th win overall.
CBU scored their only points of the dual in the 165 class where Frank Almaguer snuck past Petrucelli in sudden victory, 7-5.
The Falcons got back into the win column at 174 as No. 21 Sam Wolf majored Luis Rojas, 14-2. Wolf is 9-1 this season with a perfect 3-0 mark in dual action. At 184, Noah Blake handed Peter Acciardi a 3-1 loss in the first sudden victory round. Blake, newly ranked No. 33 in the NCAA coaches' poll has 15 wins this season.
Continuing the pressure, Calvin Sund posted a major decision over Arick Lopez, 12-4, marking his fourth dual win this season. In the final bout, No. 5 Wyatt Hendrickson delivered another fall for the Falcons, this time pinning Chris Island in just 54 seconds. The pin marked Hendrickson's 11th this year. He is undefeated in dual action, 7-0.
Next up, The Falcons head to next door neighboring Utah for a pair of duals against Snow College and Big 12 foe, Utah Valley. Both matches will take place at UVU's Lockhart Arena. Action against Snow College is slated for 2:30 p.m. MT, followed up by AF-UVU at 6 p.m. MT.
