IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Following the release of the first NCAA Coaches Polls, the Falcons had a program-best six wrestlers with numbers in front of their names. Falcon team captain heavyweight Wyatt Hendrickson checked in at No. 5 in the nation. Air Force senior 133-pounder Cody Phippen checked in at No. 19. Air Force standout freshman Tucker Owens (125) checked in at No. 29—he has a team-high 19 wins this season. Falcon senior 149-pounder Dylan Martinez is in at No. 30, teammates Giano Petrucelli (157) and Noah Blake (184), rank 31st and 33rd, respectively.
Due to a match participation error, Falcon junior 174-pounder Sam Wolf was erroneously not included in the coaches rankings. Wolf holds No. 21 in front if his name in both Flo and Intermat.
As a team, the Falcons are tabbed as No. 27 by Flo and No. 31 by WIN. In the NWCA Mid-Major Top-20 polls, the Falcons checked in at a program-high No. 12.
WYATT CHASES DOMINANCE AGAIN
The NCAA has released updated standings for the 2023 NCAA Wrestling Awards that will be awarded in March at the respective Division I, II and III Wrestling Championships. After a five-way tie atop Division I falls last week, Wyatt Hendrickson pulled away after recording his 11th fall of the season, doing so in 24:28.
LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons hit Sunny California to put on a clinic against Big 12 foe California Baptist, outscoring the Lancers 38-3 for the highest team score for AF this season. Air Force sounded off on the Lancers with bonus point wins in seven divisions.
UP NEXT
The Falcons remain in Clune Arena to host North Dakota State in dual action for Senior Night. Action is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday, February 3, in Clune Arena.
