This Week: Air Force hosts the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a dual meet Sunday, Oct. 15, at 8:30 am at the Cadet Rifle Range. Live scoring will be available at MegaLink.
The Rankings: Air Force's 4725 average aggregate score this season is the third best in the nation, behind West Virginia (4751) and TCU (4736). Nebraska's team aggregate score of 4698 is seventh.
Last Week: The Air Force rifle team opened the 2023-24 season with a 4725-4593 win over UTEP, Oct. 7, at the Academy's Cadet Rifle Range. The team aggregate score of 4725, and the smallbore score of 2345, were both the third best marks in school history. Junior Lauren Hurley won the meet with an aggregate score of 1188. Her aggregate score and her smallbore score (590) were both career bests. Junior Scott Rockett was second at 1185, including a 599 in air rifle that tied his career high. Senior Morgan Kreb shot an 1177, followed by senior Peninah D'Souza (1175), senior team captain Dante Aletto (1168), sophomore Victoria Leppert (1165) and freshman Megan Torrence, in her first collegiate meet, (1150). Hurley's 590 in smallbore was the best on the day while Rockett's 599 in air rifle was also the best of the meet. Hurley's 590 is tied as the fifth best in school history while Rockett's 599 is tied as the fourth best.
Last Time vs. The Cornhuskers: Nebraska defeated Air Force in a pair of duals last season by scores of 4717-4692 and 4706-4699 in Lincoln, Neb..
About Nebraska: Nebraska opened the season last weekend with a 4698-4684 win over Ohio State in Lincoln. The Huskers shot a 2321 in smallbore and a 2377 in air rifle. Nebraska's Cecelia Ossi won the meet with an aggregate score of 1182. Last season, Nebraska placed sixth at the NCAA Championships, beating the Falcons by just nine points. At the NCAAs, Nebraska's smallbore team beat Air Force, 2340-2322, but the Falcons were better in air rifle, 2375-2366.
Looking Back: Last season, the Falcons finished seventh in the NCAA Championships in aggregate and third in the nation in air rifle. Air Force reached the NCAAs for the ninth straight year. The Falcons return four All-Americans from last season. The four selections tied as the most since the Falcons had a school-record five selections in 2019. Senior Peninah D'Souza was named first-team in air rifle and honorable mention in aggregate. Juniors Lauren Hurley and Scott Rockett earned second-team honors in air rifle and senior Morgan Kreb earned honorable mention honors in smallbore.
