DETROIT, Mich. – The Air Force boxing team posted a 3-3 record against their service academy counterparts from Navy and Army West Point this evening (Oct. 27) at the annual Chuck Davey Invitational in Detroit.
A trio of seniors paced the Falcons at the historic Detroit Athletic Club, recording one victory over Army West Point and a pair of wins over Navy. Dylan West, a former Academy gymnast, opened the Falcons' evening with a 143-pound decision over the Black Knights' Tejas Chadha, while Angelo Ganac and Victor Benitez capped the event with back-to-back wins over Midshipmen in the 190-pound (Jake Jones) and heavyweight (Liam McCarthy) divisions.
Three other Falcons also competed on Friday, as Air Force finished the night with a 2-1 record over Navy and a 1-2 mark against Army West Point. Senior Mack Lucas suffered a setback in her 150-pound contest with Navy's Erin Nicastro, while sophomore Neo Takazawa (162 pounds, William Reed) and junior Shelby Paul (165 pounds, Emmanuela Ebiuwhe) dropped bouts to their counterparts from Army West Point.
Overall, Navy swept its three fights with Army West Point to finish 4-2 on the night, while Air Force split its six-bout card (3-3) and Army West Point finished with a 2-4 record.
Air Force is back in action next Friday (Nov. 3) for a rematch with the Black Nights in Denver.
